‘Nothing has changed’..

Sad, Angry, Desperate, Ashamed, Fearful, Broken, Overwhelmed, Hopeless…these are each words from a short scroll through my newsfeed. The emojis are 😢😞😱😤😪😭😫😡  I am sorry as today wasn’t what I voted, yet seeing these status’ made me start to wonder if I should be fearful, so I had to sit and pray. Amazingly my lion is still asleep so I have some quiet and felt the words ‘though the mountains fall into the sea’ I don’t know the verse so found it and it’s brought me so much peace I had to share it with you.. Psalm 46

God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable],A very present and well-proved help in trouble.

Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change

And though the mountains be shaken and slip into the heart of the seas,

Though its waters roar and foam,

Though the mountains tremble at its roaring. Selah.

There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,

The holy dwelling places of the Most High.

God is in the midst of her [His city], she will not be moved;

God will help her when the morning dawns.

The nations made an uproar, the kingdoms tottered and were moved;

He raised His voice, the earth melted.

The Lord of hosts is with us;

The God of Jacob is our stronghold [our refuge, our high tower]. Selah.

Come, behold the works of the Lord,

Who has wrought desolations and wonders in the earth.

He makes wars to cease to the end of the earth;

He breaks the bow into pieces and snaps the spear in two;

He burns the chariots with fire.

10 “Be still and know (recognize, understand) that I am God.

I will be exalted among the nations! I will be exalted in the earth.”

11 The Lord of hosts is with us;

The God of Jacob is our stronghold [our refuge, our high tower]. Selah.

This is for our country today. Though the earth should change, God is in the midst of her, she will not be moved, God will be with her when dawn comes.

I read the Archbishop of canterburys personal statement after he found out the news that the man he’d thought his Dad, was not his biological father, another was. His reply to this news has stuck with me. He wrote how though this had been a shock, due to his faith and identity being in his Heavenly Father he ended with – ‘what has changed? nothing’. Though from a worldly perspective everything has changed for him and it could have rocked him into fear and a huge sense of identity crisis.

Just as today it could send us into fear & identity crisis. We have a choice. We can be the people of peace, who choose faith not fear and really show where our anchor is held firm. He is still God, He is the one we look to, He is our firm foundation and our provider. We will have more to do – feed the hungry, give to those who are thirsty, clothe the naked, care for the sick, visit those in prison and take in the orphan and widows (Matt 25.34), we can get busy.  Though so much has happened this morning can we be a faithful few who choose love and peace and have the confidence in our faith to resolve- that for me..
